Flag Day was a great day for a patriotic rally on the Courthouse Square in the heart of downtown Denton. About two dozen Robson residents turned out to exercise their First Amendment right “peaceably to assemble and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.”
They joined more than 1,000 other Denton County residents of all ages.
It was a very mellow event, with interesting speakers, singing, call-and-response chanting, and several marches around the square. A few Denton city police and Texas Rangers were on hand, but they mostly gave directions and directed traffic because it was a very peaceful event.
Most interesting were the hundreds of hand-made signs that people made themselves with posterboard, magic marker, glitter, ribbon and, for a few, balloons or transparent umbrellas.
